Find your numbers

Where to find your numbers

You only need 2 standard reports

The information you need to for either the mini MOT or the Full MOT is all based on a 12 month period. You can choose whether that is the last 12 months, or the last financial year, or any other complete 12 month period you want to look at.

For the Mini MOT you just need one 12 month period, but for the Full MOT, you need to run the report, and also specify to compare it to the previous two periods (if you have them).

If you only have one previous period, then that is also fine, but you will also need the opening cash balance at the start of your first 12 month period.Below are the steps to run the reports out of the most common accounting software programs.

What each figure means and where to find it

These are the figures you will need to input for the mini MOT

Not sure where to start?

If you're finding it difficult to locate any of these figures, here are a few simple options:

  • Ask your accountant or bookkeeper — they can pull these figures in minutes
  • Check your most recent set of management accounts, which will contain most of these numbers already
  • Look at your year-end accounts if your financial year has recently ended

And if you'd like someone to walk you through your results once you've completed the MOT, that's exactly what the Full MOT + Debrief call is for.
